How to Pack the Perfect Orange Beach Picnic

Who doesn’t love a good picnic? There’s something about an al fresco meal that makes everything sweeter.

It’s picnic season on the Alabama Gulf Coast, and we couldn’t be more excited. Whether you’re spreading out on our beautiful beaches or a stretch of soft grass at your favorite park, we’ve got some helpful tips for planning and packing the perfect picnic.

Tips to Pack Your Beach Picnic

There’s more to packing a picnic than throwing items into a basket (that’s a good way to make a soggy mess). Keep these tips in mind to pack your picnic like a pro:

Bring a big blanket. If your destination doesn’t have picnic tables, you’ll want to bring a blanket large enough that you can sit and eat with ease. It’s best to choose one that’s easily washable or that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Pack the essentials. That means plates, utensils, napkins, cups – all the essential tools you need to eat comfortably outdoors. Don’t forget any other tools you may need like a bottle opener, corkscrew, cutting board, or knife. You don’t want to end up with a bottle of wine you can’t open!

Stay on top of temperatures. Use insulated or thermal containers to keep your hots, hot, and your colds, cold. A sturdy cooler with plenty of ice packs is great for picnic perishables. You’ll always want an insulated cup to keep your drinks adequately chilled (we love The Pantry’s custom line of insulated beverage containers).

Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray. Keep your skin healthy and itch-free while dining outdoors!

8 Things We Can’t Live Without at a Beach Picnic

Technically, anything you can carry and eat outdoors is fine for a picnic, but some classic picnic items can add something special to your picnic spread. Luckily, you can find many of them at The Pantry at The Wharf in Orange Beach!

Get inspired with some of our favorite picnic products:

  • Poppy Popcorn. Easy to carry and available in sweet and savory flavors, it’s the perfect picnic snack.
  • Jones Soda. These nostalgic sodas come in bold colors and funky flavors, making them a fun (and tasty) way to quench your thirst.
  • Handmade Sandwiches. Grab a classic choice like turkey and cheddar from our grab-and-go cooler for a fast, fresh option. They even come in sealed containers for leak-proof packing!
  • Quality Meats & Cheeses. If you prefer the DIY picnic, shop our selection of Boars Head meats and cheeses to give your guests plenty of options. Don’t forget to grab a box of Firehook organic crackers for the perfect amount of crunch!
  • Wine Chips. Speaking of crunch, Wine Chips are a unique snack that’s sure to spark some good conversation. Yummy flavors like Blue Cheese and Serrano Cheddar are designed exclusively to pair with wines, so be sure to pair a bottle with your chips when you stop by The Pantry.
  • Charcuterie Boxes. Skip the chore of making your own charcuterie spread with Chef David Pan’s curated selections. Each box is generously prepared with Chef’s choice of meats and cheese, as well as a variety of fresh berries, chocolate, and accoutrements. Easy pick-up is available with 24 hours’ notice!
  • Decadent desserts. End your picnic on a high note with a selection of treats like hand-poured chocolates, sweet macaroons, cake pops, cannoli’s, and more.
  • Hand Sanitizer. The Pantry’s Hand Sanitizer Gel is a must-have picnic addition to make sure your hands stay squeaky clean.
